Chris was born in 1979 in the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia, Canada. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemistry in 2001 from Mount Allison University, graduating with first class honors with distinction. While at Mount A he conducted research in the laboratories of Prof. John Read studying the kinetics of potassium ferrate oxidations and Prof. Steve Westcott working on the synthesis of metal complexes of boronate ester containing diimines. He earned his Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 2006 under Prof. SonBinh Nguyen, where he worked on the application of aluminum complexes in organic synthesis. From 2006–2009 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Labs in Los Alamos working on the synthesis of organouranium complexes with Dr. Jackie Kiplinger. Chris began his independent career at Albright College prior to moving to Swarthmore College in 2016 as an Associate Professor.
